Asian long-horned beetle is spreading via wooden packaging material

Asian long-horned beetle (Anoplophora glabripennis) is classified as a quarantine pest of hardwood trees, threatening to spread from Asia to Europe via wooden packaging material. Especially wooden packaging material of stoneware must be monitored for adult beetles and for tunnels chewed by the larvae. You are requested to report your findings to Evira.

Matti Aho appointed as the new Director General of Evira 

The government has appointed Matti Aho, Licentiate of Veterinary Medicine, as the new Director General of the Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira for a term from 1.5.2012 until 20.4.2019. Aho has previously worked as the Director General of the Department of Food and Health at the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

Changes to pet travel regulations 3.1.2012

The requirements on medication given to prevent the spread of the tapeworm,Echinococcus multilocularis, will change at the beginning of 2012. In future, puppies under three months old imported from EU countries and dogs transported from, for instance, Sweden must be medicated before their arrival in Finland.

E-numbers and names of food additives now searchable through a mobile service  9.7.2011

The Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira has introduced a mobile service to make it easy to check the name of an additive by searching for its e-number or to check the e-number by searching for the additive’s name. For the time being, the service is only provided in Finnish. The mobile service can be uploaded via a mobile phone or PC athttp://m.evira.fi.
