Laboratory operations

The branch of activity of Evira's laboratories includes diagnostics of animal diseases and analytics related to food safety, as well as laboratory studies associated with the safety and quality of feeds, fertilizers and seeds. Laboratory operations include national and international reference laboratory activities.

The laboratory operations support the other tasks of the Authority, such as control, scientific research, risk assessment and other expert tasks.

Certain regulatory studies are conducted by laboratories approved by Evira.

Quality of laboratory operations

The quality of laboratory operations at Evira is assured through respective decisions by FINAS (Finnish Accreditation Service) on granting accreditation covering all the laboratory activities at Evira, and by ISTA (International Seed Testing Association) on accreditation regarding seed analytics. In addition, Evira has achieved approval for Good Laboratory Practice by FIMEA (Finnish Medicines Agency) with respect to residue analytics of pesticides. GLP approval requires adherence to general principles defined by OECD countries.
