Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira: Strategy 2007-2013

The Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira began work on 1 May 2006.

The new Authority was established by joining together the agencies that work in the administrative field of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. These were the National Food Agency, the National Veterinary and Food Research Institute, and the Plant Production Inspection Centre. Evira also assumed responsibility for the executive functions of the Department of Food and Health and the Information Centre of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

The merging of several different organisations poses both challenges and possibilities. Much is expected of the new Authority in terms of operations reform, services and cooperation at both national and international levels.

The primary aim of our strategic planning is to refine the core mission and future goals in the changing environment in which we operate. We have focused on making choices and debating the expectations our diverse clientele has for us and the services we will provide in the future.

To become a strong nationwide influence and an effective, sought-after partner, Evira needs clear goals and the means to achieve those goals. Our strategy provides direction for our operations and encompasses the expectations of our customers and partners.

Our aim is to create a single, unified Evira that implements an operations model based on the Evira philosophy. In order to create an attractive work place where things get done in a service-oriented manner, and employees truly enjoy their jobs, we must adjust the division of tasks and agree on common work patterns together. Evira's role as an expert organisation providing versatile services further emphasises these requirements.

Strategic planning will play a significant part in successful fulfilment of our future tasks. It encourages us to reform and to strive to meet the expectations we are faced with. It will also strengthen the new transparent Evira philosophy, where everyone's thoughts are appreciated and dialogue is promoted. We are now ready to put the strategy effectively into practice.
