  • number of animals 5 or less
  • travel with the owner or owner's representative

In this case there is no health certificate requirement but the Customs checks the animals at arrival. The only requirement is that the animals entern the country via an accepted border crossing point.

Commercial import

Commercial import requirements must be fulfilled when the animals

  • are six or more
  • are intended for sale or further given to a new owner

  • travel alone as cargo

No health certificate required, but a commercial document which states:

  • the country of origin
  • the names of consignor and consignee
  • the scientific name of the species

In case of commercial import veterinary border inspection is needed in the first EU-country the animals arrive. An advanced notification is needed prior to arrival in TRACES -system and the importer must contact: lentoasema@ evira.fi

CITES-requirements

Importer of reptile or amphibian must always find out if CITES-permit is required. Please contact Finland's Environmental Center: cites@ ymparisti.fi. CITES-species may only be imported via an approved border crossinf point for CITES-species.
