09.08.2010 - 11:05 - Official veterinarians conducted more than 3,200 animal welfare inspections due to suspected violations in 2009. Neglect of animal welfare regulations was found in every other case, whereupon actions were taken in accordance with the Animal Welfare Act. As in previous years, most severe cases of neglect concerned companion animals.
20.07.2010 - 12:09 - The regulatory inspections of cattle farms, started after the Salmonella Typhimurium –bacterium was found in the feed manufacturing process of Rehuraisio on week 25, have now been completed. All the farms were found to be free from salmonella.
18.06.2010 - 07:50 - In 2009, a total of 275 animal transports were inspected in slaughterhouses and on the road, nonconformities with respect to animal protection being detected in some 27 per cent of these. As in previous years, the majority, some 32 per cent of the detected nonconformities, were related to deficiencies in regulatory documents.
15.06.2010 - 10:10 - The movement of pet dogs, cats and ferrets with passengers is regulated by the Regulation on pet animals (EC 998/2003), amended and specified during spring 2010 as regards, for example, the requirements concerning transponders (microchips) and anti-rabies vaccination. The number of pets that may be brought to Finland is now restricted to five.
03.06.2010 - 16:00 - An EU animal welfare inspection was in 2009 conducted in a total of 561 production farms with the husbandry conditions of more than 360000 animals controlled. Severe negligence calling for urgent action to safeguard the wellbeing of the animals was found in two farms. All in all violations against the animal welfare regulations were reported in ca. 19% of the farms, which is slightly less than in 2008, when 22% of the farms failed to fulfil animal welfare requirements in all respects.
