Warning and instructions for use in labelling of foods containing caffeine

It is mandatory by law to include a warning as well as instructions for use in the labelling of foods, if necessary. Excess intake of caffeine maycause symptoms to sensitive consumer groups such as children, pregnant women and caffeine-sensitive individuals. In order to protect these consumer groups, Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira has issued a guideline to the effect that separate warnings for pregnant women, children and caffeine-sensitive consumers must be provided on the packages of foods containing caffeine. The labelling of the products shall also indicate the maximum amount of daily consumption.
