Restriction on the use of foodstuffs

The labelling of food products shall provide the necessary instructions for use, if they are required for the safe use of the food. In addition, Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira issues, if necessary, recommendations on the safe use of foodstuffs to the public in general, or to special target groups (children, adolescents, pregnant and breastfeeding women, the infirm and immuno-compromised, and the elderly).

These instructions are included in the   ”Eating together – food recommendations for families with children” issued by the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) and the National Nutrition Council.

Evira maintains the instructions for safe use of foodstuffs. The valid and updated instructions can be found on this site. The Table that lists instructions for the safe use of foods also contains instructions that apply to the public in general. The risk group with respect to Listeria includes also the elderly as well as persons with a compromised immune system as a result of an illness or some medication, although these risk groups are not specifically indicated in this Table.
