Infant formulae and follow on formulae shall bear a nutrition declaration. The nutrient labelling required by Decree 1216/2017 of the Ministry of Trade and Commerce is presented below.
The European Commission is preparing Delegated Regulations regarding special requirements for the composition and labelling of infant formulae and follow on formulae. The nutrition declaration presented in these Regulations will be consistent with the Food Information Regulation (1169/2011). The Regulations are expected to be completed in early 2016 and adopted three years after that.
Mandatory nutrient declaration
Under Decree 1216/2017 of the Ministry of Trade and Commerce the labelling of infant formulae and follow on formulae shall indicate the amounts of the following nutrients in 100 ml of the product ready for use:
- vitamins and minerals (Annexes I and II)
- where applicable, the quantity of choline, inositol and carnitine
Voluntary nutrition declaration
The amounts of the following nutrients referred to in Annex III can be indicated per 100 ml of the product ready for use in the labelling of infant formulae and follow on formulae:
- amino acids and nitrogen compounds
- choline and inositol
The percentage of vitamins and minerals expressed as reference intake values, presented in Annex VII, can be indicated in the labelling of follow on formula, in addition to their amounts.
