Double Touch – food supplement that may contain a medical substance to be withdrawn from the market

In analysis carried out by the Customs laboratory for the Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira, the food supplement Double Touch has been found to contain two substances similar to the medical substance sildenafil, namely thiosildenafil and dimethyl sildenafil thione. Sildenafil is the active agent in the drug Viagra (medication for erectile dysfunction). The National Agency for Medicines has classified thiosildenafil as a drug and preparations containing it are deemed to be comparable to prescription drugs.

The use of the product Double Touch can cause severe health hazards to people suffering from cardiovascular diseases, and they should stop using the product immediately. If consumers suspect that the food supplement has caused adverse effects, they are advised to contact a doctor. Any adverse effects should also be reported to the municipal food control authorities.

There is no previous history of the use of substances found in the product Double Touch, such as sildenafil as food, and therefore the product is also in contravention with the legislation on novelty foods (Regulation (EC) No 258/97 of the European Parliament and the Council).

Consumers are requested to return the product to the point of purchase.
