IMPORT AND EXPORT OF POTATOES
The potato plant hosts a number of harmful plant diseases and pests, whose spread from one country to another must be prevented. These harmful pests include bacterial ring rot, brown rot, potato root eelworm and the Colorado beetle. Due to the risk of pests, the import and export of potatoes is subject to various requirements and restrictions to trade with non-EU countries.
In the EU internal market, too, batches of potato must meet legal requirements as regards health and labelling. Information on the requirements that apply in internal market trade is available at Sales and marketing > Potato.
