Supervision of forest reproductive material
The Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira’s Plant Health Unit enforces the Act on Trade in Forest Reproductive Material.
Forest reproductive material refers to the cones, seeds and planting stock of tree species key to forestry.
The aforementioned tree species are listed in Annex I of the Council Directive 1999/105/EC.
The aim of supervision is to ensure:
- the high quality of basic material used for producing forest reproductive material
- the compliance of seeds and seedlings on the market with the regulations in force
- that buyers gain the necessary information in support of selecting material suitable for a specific purpose.
