The exportation of Finnish meat products to China was promoted successfully in discussions conducted in Beijing. Chinese authorities promised the Finnish delegation that the process related to the import of pork will be sped up and an inspection team sent to Finland.

Finnish meat cannot be exported to China at the moment. Exportation cannot start until Chinese authorities have inspected and approved Finnish slaughterhouses and establishments.

The discussions about the inspections of establishments were conducted in a good spirit. Kyösti Siponen, Head of Unit at Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira, is therefore hopeful that the inspections of Finnish establishments will be carried out as soon as possible.

The Finnish delegation met representatives of the General Administration of Quality Supervision Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) as well as Vice Minister Wu Qinghai. AQSIQ is in charge of the inspection of imported food and pre-authorisation of meat establishments.

Finnish authorities were in the meeting represented by the Minister of Social Affairs and Health, Ms. Paula Risikko and Mr. Kyösti Siponen, Head of Unit at Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira.
