The opinion of EFSA was published on 25 November 2008
EU approval for the genetically modified maize 59122 x NK603 has been sought for all food and feed uses, for importing and processing but not for cultivation. The genetically modified maize has been developed in order to tolerate glyfosate and glufosinate herbicides and resist certain coleopteran pests.

The European Commission makes its draft decision about allowing the GM maize onto the market in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council on genetically modified food and feed, taking into consideration, amongst other things, the opinion of EFSA and the comments from the public. The opinion is found in its entirety on the EFSA Internet page, where documents related to the opinion are also published.

The unofficial Finnish translation of EFSA’s opinion can be found on Evira’s Internet pages: > Evira > Kasvintuotanto ja rehut > Rehut > GMO > EFSA:lle jätetyt hakemukset > Tietoa hakemuksista > Maissit.

In these pages you will also find information about the applications and procedures for authorization of genetically modified food and feed.
