EU approval for the genetically modified rice LLRICE62 has been sought for all food and feed purposes, for importing and processing but not for cultivation. The genetically modified rice LLRICE62 has been developed in order to tolerate glufosinate herbicides.

The European Commission makes its draft decision about allowing the GM rice onto the market in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council on genetically modified food and feed, taking into consideration, amongst other things, the opinion of EFSA and the comments from the public. The opinion is found in its entirety on the EFSA Internet page, where documents related to the opinion are also published.

The unofficial Finnish translation of EFSA’s opinion can be found on Evira’s Internet pages: > Kasvintuotanto ja rehut > Rehut > GMO > EFSA:lle jätetyt hakemukset > Tietoa hakemuksista > Riisihakemukset.

In these pages you will also find information about the applications and procedures for authorization of genetically modified food and feed.
