An opinion of EFSA on a genetically modified soybean has been published - the public has the opportunity to make comments


<div>The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has assessed the safety of the genetically modified soybean A2704-12 that is resistant to herbicides containing glufosinate in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1829/2003 of the European Parliament and of the Council on genetically modified food and feed. The public has the opportunity to make comments to the European Commission on this opinion until 10.9.2007. </div>

EU approval for the genetically modified A2704-12 soybean has been sought for all food and feed purposes, for importing and processing but not for cultivation. The genetically modified soybean A2704-12 has been developed in order to tolerate glufosinate herbicides.

The European Commission makes its draft resolution about allowing the GM soybean onto the market, taking into consideration, amongst other things, the opinion of EFSA and the comments from the public.
