Duties related to plant protection products have transferred from Evira to Tukes


<p>Plant protection product risk assessment, authorisation and control duties transferred from the Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira to the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes) as of 1 January 2011. In addition, chemicals product control duties from the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE) and the National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Valvira) transferred to Tukes.</p>

Thirteen employees moved from Evira to Tukes. All in all, the reorganisation will involve the transfer of 74 employees from all agencies concerned, increasing the total number of employees of the new Tukes to around 200. Transferred employees will move to the Pasila office during the week beginning 10 January.

The mobile phone numbers of employees transferring from Evira will remain unchanged, but their e-mail addresses will be of the format firstname.surname at-merkki.gif : 1Kb tukes.fi from 1 January 2011. From the same date, the postal address will be Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes), PO Box 66, 00521 Helsinki, Finland and the office address Opastinsilta 12 B.

After the reorganisation, the setting of limits regarding plant protection product residues, and duties related to supplementary terms of agricultural subsidies will remain with Evira. In addition, Evira carries out monitoring of plant protection product residues in food products.

Tukes is tasked with the oversight and promotion of technical safety and conformity related to products, services and production systems, consumer safety, chemical safety and the safety and quality of plant protection products.
