Evira takes part in Security and Defence 2012 Fair

This is the sixth special exhibition for security and defence. The Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira is one of the partners contributing to the exhibition theme 'Working together for safety’ because food safety is an integral part of a safe and secure daily life. This time Evira’s theme is the food safety risks posed by the EHEC bacteria. Evira wishes to point out that unpasteurized milk is also a potential source of EHEC infection.

Precautions need to be taken to protect against hazards that endanger food safety, such as diseases that threaten the health of animals and plants.

New threats and risks are being detected all over the world. With an increase in international trade, it is essential that information about these risks is communicated to the public effectively. Networking at home and international cooperation coupled with proper contingency planning create a sound basis for an effective response to the ever-changing circumstances.

Evira’s mission is to ensure the safety and quality of foodstuffs through research and regulatory oversight. All food safety is based on healthy plants and animals. In the same vein, safe food is an important part of day-to-day safety and security.

The Security and Defence 2012 Fair gives visitors a comprehensive overview of safety and security in Finland.

The exhibition is held at the Lahti Fair Centre 27 to 29 September 2012.
