Export to Russia of products containing pork resumes

The European Commission and Russian authorities have reached an agreement on resuming the export of meat products containing pork to Russia. According to the Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira, the first such meat products may be exported from Finland to Russia as early as the end of week beginning 17 February.

The ban on exporting pork meat and raw meat products made from pork remains in force. Negotiations continue between the European Commission and Russian authorities on resuming the export of these products.

Pork meat and live pig exports from the EU to Russia were suspended at the end of January 2014 following a case of African swine fever detected in Lithuania. At the beginning of February, Russia also blocked the export of products containing pork, such as sausages, cuts and salami.
