Fresh faces 2009 – Food Labels in the Spotlight
Clarifying the “use by” and “best before” labelling
During the campaign the difference between “use by” and “best before” dates of pre-packaged foodstuffs will be clarified and numerous other labelling issues aimed at the consumer will be considered. Labelling of packaging containing pet food will also be examined.
An important goal of the campaign is to guide the consumers to give feedback on inadequate labelling to the right authority.
Launching of the campaign on 22.1.2009 in Helsinki
The campaign is to be launched on 22 January 2009 with an opening event in Helsinki (in Finnish). At the event Evira’s new brochure 7 reasons to acquaint yourself with food labelling and the results of a questionnaire study clarifying how people read the labelling on the packaging will be released.
During the campaign year, organisations will organise local public events in different localities. At the end of the year, the questionnaire study will be repeated in order to gather information on the effect of the campaign.
The themes of the campaign
The themes of the campaign will vary from month to month. They will be presented on the internet page of the campaign which will be up in January. The page will have information on labelling of packaging and competitions and a calendar of events, where all of the events and contact persons related to the theme will be presented.
Organisers of the campaign
The campaign is run by Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira, The Swedish Martha Association in Finland, Kuluttajat - Konsumenterna ry, Rural Women’s Advisory Organisation, the Martha Organization and the Finnish Consumers' Association. Other organisations are also taking part in the campaign.
