New leaf-design organic logo for EU to be introduced on 1 July 2010
The labelling of pre-packaged products shall feature the Euro-leaf logo, code number and the place of farming
The code number of the organic control authority must be indicated on all organic products. Pre-packaged products are required to also feature EU's new organic logo. The right to apply the logo is not granted separately, but the logo is to be used as prescribed in the Regulation.
The origin of the raw materials of the product shall be indicated on products bearing the logo. For raw materials produced in Finland, for example, the origin can be indicated alternatively as ”EU Agriculture”, ”Finnish Agriculture” or ”EU – Finnish Agriculture”. In addition to this indication, the origin marking required by the General Food Regulations must still also be featured in the labelling.
The Euro-leaf logo may not be used alone without the other compulsory organic indications, or for example, in corporate advertising. The application of the Euro-leaf logo is voluntary on non-packaged food products and other organic products, but the logo must not be applied to pet foods, for example.
Finnish sun-design logo can be used alongside Euro-leaf
The familiar Finnish sun-design organic logo can still be applied alongside the Euro-leaf logo. The right to apply the sun-design logo is granted by the Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira.
Old packaging material may be used up to the end of June 2012, which means that the EU spike-design logo may still appear on packaging after July.
