Public examination of doctoral dissertation: Norovirus easily picked up from surfaces


<p>The dissertation examines the occurrence of noroviruses on various environmental surfaces and the transfer of the viruses between surfaces. Another objective of the study was to determine whether noroviruses could be destroyed by ultraviolet irradiation.</p>

Maria Rönnqvist, Licentiate in Veterinary Medicine, employed in the Risk Assessment Research Unit of the Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira will defend her doctoral dissertation in the field of food and environmental virology at the Department of Food Hygiene and Environmental Health of the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the University of Helsinki.

The public examination will be held on 24 October 2014 at 12.00 in the Walter Hall of the EE Building at Agnes Sjöbergin katu 2 in Viikki, Helsinki.

The complete name of the dissertation is Noroviruses on surfaces: Detection, transfer and inactivation.
