Research seminar 10.12.2013: <i>Listeria monocytogenes</i> in the food chain – prevalence and means of survival of the bacteria


<p> <em>Listeria monocytogenes</em> is a food-borne pathogen. The incidence rate of listeriosis is higher in Finland than on average in Europe. In the years 2010 - 2012, the annual number of cases has been 43 - 71. By the end of November, 55 domestic listeriosis cases have been reported in 2013. <br /></p>

Special Researcher, DVM PhD Annukka Markkula, who works in the Food and Feed Microbiology Research Unit of Finnish Food Safety Authority Evira, lectures on the listeria monocytogenes bacteria, as well as their prevalence and means of survival.
